* VK = cap. One dosage means 1 level cap.
The lowest dosage is applied at the start of an infestation or as a preventative measure.
The highest dosage is applied when the number of harmful mites is very high.
Repeat after 5 weeks if there is an increase. The Mite Booster container with the Mite Booster cartridge is generally used to preventively protect the animal accommodation against blood mites. Predatory mites are very effective predators that live on the ground and have a very wide range of prey, including bird and blood mites. They are therefore ideal for use in terrariums, aviaries, chicken coops etc. if no insecticides are to be used and biological control is the aim. The development from egg to sexually mature beneficial insect takes about 12 days (at 25°C). The eggs and nymphs are white, whereas adults are brown and can be up to 1 mm in size. A predatory mite consumes 5 blood mites per day and lays up to 3 eggs per day. In this way, the biological balance is adjusted in favor of the predatory mites but to the detriment of the blood mites. Visible success can be seen after just a few days. In many cases, the blood mites are completely eradicated within a few weeks. If there is a very high initial infestation, we recommend a follow-up treatment with more predatory mites after approx. 6 weeks. The predatory mite can starve for several weeks (in the absence of prey). Preventative use is therefore possible. The control of snake mites, spider mites (Tarantula is very often infested) or mites has also proved very successful in terrariums.
Use of Dutchy’s ® on chickens and other poultry
The application of predatory mites for use against the red bird mite should be carried out with great care. Therefore, please follow the instructions in this manual carefully. If the instructions are not followed correctly, the control may fail. During the first few weeks, the Dutchy’s will use a pile of litter material as a meeting point.
This is where fertilization takes place and new eggs may be laid. It is therefore very important that these piles are maintained for several weeks and do not dry out. Important instructions for application.
1. Hold the bottle horizontally and rotate it slowly around its
own axis a few times. This distributes the predatory mites evenly in the material.
2. Use the table to calculate how many piles should be spread in your cage or coop.
3. Find a quiet place so that the piles of litter material are not stirred up by the poultry. If necessary, place a bowl over it so that the chickens cannot reach the material. Provide some space between the material and the bowl, e.g. by placing a piece of wood underneath. The Dutchies can then crawl out from underneath without any problems.
4. It is important that the material is kept moist. If it dries out, many larvae and eggs will not survive and the control will be less effective. If necessary, use small moistening mats to prevent drying out.
5. Pour some material from the bottle into the cap. One full cap is sufficient for one application site. Carefully pour the contents into a small pile at the selected location.
6. Leave the pile alone for at least two weeks. Predatory mites will now crawl out of the heap into the hutch every day.
7. Moisten the heap a little every two days at most, even if you use small moistening mats.
8. Unpack the material immediately after it arrives and use all of it. It is not possible to store it for a longer period of time, as the Dutchies in the bottle will eat each other.
9. Leave the empty bottle in the chicken coop for at least another day after spreading. If there are still Dutchies in the bottle, they can crawl out during this time. If you apply the predatory mites when there are still no blood mites present or the infestation is still light, one pile of litter material per square meter is sufficient.
