Supplementary feed for pigeons
A mixture of 26 components in combination with P 40 + minerals and seed “Superieur” No. 74 ensures an optimal moulting process. Moistening with hemp oil 3 times a week optimizes the moulting process.
What can go wrong when feeding pigeons during the moulting period? Giving too little methionine used to be one of the most common mistakes. This was mainly due to too many peas in the pigeon feed mixtures. A lack of the amino acid arginine, lysine or even zinc led to poor discoloration of the feathers, which we call depigmentation of the feathers in Nice jargon. Unfortunately, there are still moulting mixtures that are not sufficient for a perfect moult. Here the proportion of maize, peas and wheat predominates.
These mixtures are not suitable for moulting alone. The moulting process is very stressful for the pigeons. The radical new development of the plumage drains valuable energy from the pigeons. Now we come to our first point: high-energy mixtures!
So what is important?
If we look at the composition of feathers, we see that they consist of 90% protein, 1.5% fat and the rest water. An adequate supply of protein is absolutely essential! In addition, research has shown that Omega 3 also plays an important role in moulting. This is how a diet should be summarized: Sufficient contained energy, protein (protein) and omega 3. Dari, for example, has a lower protein content than linseed. This brings us to the next point: oil-containing seeds, let’s take linseed. This has a high fat content and a good omega ratio of 2:5, i.e. omega 6 has 2 parts and omega 3 has 5 parts, arginine also plays an important role in moulting. Hemp seed is increasingly becoming an important source of raw materials, as it also contains a high fat content and a high usable protein, unlike any other component.
A perfect moulting mixture consists of many available individual seeds, such as canary seed, wild seeds, millet, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds etc., which have a positive influence on the moulting process. Pigeons know their needs and instinctively eat the right components.
