Dr. Brockamp Active Iron 500ml
Liquid feed supplement for pigeons to increase the oxygen concentration in the blood
As an important component of the blood pigment haemoglobin, iron enables the red blood cells to transport oxygen. Haemoglobin binds the inhaled oxygen and transports it to the body cells. The need for iron is particularly high during periods of high physical stress, such as traveling, breeding and moulting. Iron anemia is one of the most common deficiency symptoms in young pigeons, which increase their body weight more than a hundredfold in the first few weeks of life and therefore have to produce a lot of blood and hemoglobin. The immediate consequence is a haemoglobin deficit, which leads to an insufficient supply of oxygen to the entire organism. In addition to the transport of oxygen to the cells, other important metabolic processes are also inhibited.
The carrier pigeon obtains its flight energy primarily from fat metabolism. The provision of energy from fat metabolism requires many times more oxygen than the carbohydrate metabolism predominantly used by humans. This illustrates how important a sufficiently high hemoglobin concentration in the blood is for the pigeon. Energy in the form of fat, carbohydrates and protein as well as vitamins, minerals and trace elements are sufficiently available to the pigeon through a balanced diet. The presence of a sufficiently high concentration of oxygen in the blood during the race is therefore a decisive factor in performance, especially in endurance races.
Active iron promotes blood formation, increases the number of red blood cells in particular and boosts the haemoglobin content. This increases the oxygen concentration in the blood and accelerates oxygen transport to the cells. This initially leads to an increase in fitness, training performance and ultimately to a natural increase in performance during races.
With today’s demands on the modern racing pigeon, the iron requirement and iron supply must definitely be discussed anew, because even optically healthy pigeons can be significantly revitalized by regular iron supplementation.
Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract make the absorption of iron more difficult. Too low acidity of the gastric juice, for example, or changes to the mucous membrane in the upper small intestine as well as infestation with harmful bacteria can be reasons for this. Care should therefore be taken to keep the racing pigeons’ natural intestinal flora intact. In addition, the bioavailability of iron in old pigeons is reduced to approx. 10 %, whereas young pigeons can utilize up to 90 % of the iron from their feed. A correspondingly high dosage must therefore be strictly observed.
1000 ml Active Iron contains 22,000 mg of a specific organically bound iron. This special organically bound form of iron is best absorbed and utilized by the pigeon organism in direct comparison to other iron supplements.
Instructions for use: Active Iron should always be used when the pigeons are under particular physical strain. Especially during the racing season, Active Iron should be administered at least twice a week via the drinking water. Ideally, Active Iron should be administered 2-3 times a week 3-4 weeks before the racing season in order to replenish the pigeons’ iron stores at an early stage. Depending on the physical strain, it is recommended to give 5 ml of Active Iron per 1-2 liters of water or 1-2 kg of feed for 25 pigeons per day.
